I love granola, however due to being allergic to nuts my options are generally quite limited, people seriously love chucking some walnuts or peanuts in anything and everything but especially when it comes to granola.
Since starting my blog this year I creating an instagram page and I am following a bunch of really creative and inspiring accounts and a lot of them have posted recipes and beautiful images of their own homemade granolas and been very impressed but I have never actually been inspired to make my own.
So what changed? Well I was recently visiting a friend of mine in Albury and we went out for breakfast where I ordered granola for breakfast and oh my god it was good. After I came back to Canberra I couldn’t stop thinking about it and decided I needed to re-create it myself. I read about 20 different recipes online and worked out all you need are oats, seeds, something sweet then bake for about 20 min at 160 degrees celsius.
So anyway here goes my recipe (feels surreal saying that) for granola:
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups of rolled oats
- 1/2 cup pepitas
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 1/4 cup golden flax seeds
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 20 g freeze dried strawberries
Method:
- Preheat oven to 160 degrees celsius
- Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix until everything is coated in maple syrup
- Bake for 20 minutes
- Let the granola cool completely then mix through the freeze dried strawberries
- Enjoy!
As a side note this was super cheap to make! flax seeds cost 0.80 and pepitas were 1.20 and a massive bag of oats was about $3 from coles. The chia seeds were a bit exy but I got a massive bag rather than measured out amounts so will see how long that lasts.
